Total Trip Cost: A Worked Example
Here is everything you would pay for a typical New Jersey → Florida move (about 1,200 miles):
- Driver: $1,200–$1,600 (from the table above), including the driver’s travel.
- Fuel: U-Haul trucks get about 6–10 miles per gallon. 1,200 miles ÷ 10 MPG = 120 gallons; 1,200 miles ÷ 6 MPG = 200 gallons. At $4.00/gal, for example, that is $480–$800. We give you a fuel estimate before departure.
- Tolls: billed at cost; they depend on the route.
- Truck rental: paid directly to U-Haul (or Penske, Budget, Enterprise or Ryder). Check their quote for your dates.
Driver plus fuel in this example: $1,680–$2,400, plus tolls and your truck rental.
